Districts
of Venice
In this section you
will find our suggestions for the best places
to visit in Venice
together with
information about things to do both day and night
in each district.
Central
Venice is divided into six administrative districts.
To the north is Cannaregio, and
Castello can be found to the east.
In
the centre is the
San Marco district with the famous piazza
of the same name as its focus. Santa
Croce, San
Polo and
Dorsoduro are on the southern side of
the city. San Giorgio Maggiore Giudecca and
Lido are separate
islands, as are Torcello, Murano (where
glass is produced), and Burano (where lace is
historically
made). There are over 70 islands in the
lagoon in total, each with their own character
and
history.
