Museo
Correr
The Museo Correr (Correr
museum) is right in front of the San
Marco’s
Basilica, and offers an exciting itinerary
to discover
the history of Venetian art.
The Museum was founded in 1830 after the
donation of Teodoro Correr’ s collection
to the city of Venice. The journey inside
the museum starts from Napoleon’ s
Hall, a marvellous Neo-classical creation
that after the collapse of Venetian Republic
(1797) became the French royal palace,
to be later occupied by the Austrians and
then the Kings of Italy (1866). The exposition
goes further on to the halls of the “Procuratie
Nuove”, designed in the 16th century
by V. Scamozzi, where traditionally resided
the Venetian magistrate. |
