Accademia's
galleries
A few boat stops after Piazza San Marco in the
direction of the Railway station you can reach
the Accademia galleries, the most famous in Venice.
Housed in a Gothic building dating from the middle
of the 15th century, the complex was refurbished
from 1919-1922. It was during these years that
the elegant original ogival window was discovered.
The Accademia’ s Galleries constitute an
important collection of Venetian paintings from
the 14th century to the 18th century. Here are
the preserved masterpieces of the fathers of
Italian painting- masters like Bellini, Giorgione,
Carpaccio, Tiziano, Tintoretto, Veronese and
Tiepolo.
