The
Fontego dei Turchi, built in the 13th century,
is still one
of the most interesting palaces facing Grand
Canal. The palace was used from 1641 as a warehouse
by Turkish merchants trading in the lagoon
but after gradually falling into a state of
disrepair as commerce declined. The actual
façade and interior hall were restored
at the beginning of the 19th century, thanks
to the poet and art critic John Ruskin,

Today it houses a museum,
which offers to the visitors collections of
natural elements
like: mineral, fossils, botanical and ethnographical
collections related also to the
Paleo-Veneto. The Dinosaur's Room and the Aquarium’s room are the bigger
attraction of the museum.
